Grading Sytem
- Riara University uses the Grade Point Average (GPA) system.
- Trimester GPA is a measure of performance of a student for a session. A GPA is a number between 0 and 4 inclusive. Cumulative GPA (CGPA) is a measure of performance of a student for a number of trimesters.
- Like a Trimester GPA, the Cumulative GPA is a number between 0 and 4 inclusive.
- Each course is assessed based on the Continuous Assessment Tests (30%) and the Trimester Examinations (70%) and given a letter grade. The letter grade F denotes a failure grade and has a numerical value of zero.
- The letter grades with their corresponding numerical values (including pluses), form a ten-step grade-point scale.

Students from other institutions of higher learning may, on admission, apply to join RU programmes as transfer students. Those with relevant and appropriate credits may transfer some of the credits to join a degree programme at an appropriate level.
Similarly, candidates who hold post-high school diplomas and certificates from recognized tertiary institutions and wish to upgrade their academic qualifications may be admitted as transfer candidates. In the same manner, degree holder candidates wishing to obtain a second degree may also be admitted as transfer candidates.
Transfer students may apply to transfer some of the credits from their former institutions to programmes at RU subject to the following conditions:
- 1. The documents to support such an application shall be submitted concurrently with the application for admission to facilitate processing;
- 2. Only courses with grade B or higher may be transferred;
- 3. An applicant may be granted up to a maximum of 33% of the programme credits;
- 4. Individual programmes may have specific additional conditions on the credits transferred;
- 5. An applicant shall, on admission, receive official communication from the Academic Registrar confirming the credits transferred;
- 6. Transferred credits will be paid for at rates determined by the Senate.
- 7. The Senate reserves the right to determine the number and type of credits that can be transferred for each student.
