The Academic Calendar is the schedule of events that take place within an academic year.
The Academic Year begins in January of each calendar year and ends in December of the same year.
The academic Year consists of three trimesters, each trimester consists of fourteen (14) weeks in total and seventeen (17) for Law School.
The first trimester begins in January and ends in April. The second trimester begins in May and ends in August; the third trimester begins in September and ends in December of the same year

Important
Setting examinations is a joint responsibility of the lecturer or course instructor and the Departmental Board of Examiners (DBE). The DBE consists of all the academic staff in the department
All examinations will be taken as per university examinations schedule or otherwise advised.
All CATs, assignments and reports must be submitted on the E-learning platform within the stipulated timelines.
Students will be expected to have fully paid their fees and submitted all CATs, assignments and reports within the stipulated timelines to be eligible for the end of semester examinations

Special Examinations
The following are the rules and regulations governing the Special examinations:
The University grants special exams when the unit is next on offer.
If the following reasons apply, the student will sit the exam without having to pay any extra fee
The tuition fees for the unit is fully paid and the student fees account is up to date
The student could not sit the exam due to a medical reason supported by a medical practitioner's note, bereavement of an immediate family member during the exam period, or the student was representing the University in a duly authorized event where Senior Management and the Academic Registrar had given approval.
Failure to do exams due to fees arrears is not sufficient reason to be granted special exams.
The Vice Chancellor or the Deputy Vice Chancellor may approve special exams for other reasons but such exemptions will attract special exam fees which will be set and reviewed by the University Management from time to time.
Commencement Date
The commencement for this year will be held on 12th July 2024, at Riara University Graduation Square.
The commencement ceremony shall be held once during the year at a location decided by the Senate.
